This tip teaches keyboard shortcuts that can make your computing faster and more efficient. These shortcut keys can be used rather quickly, rather than having to take the time to locate a button on your screen and click on it with your mouse.

The most common keyboard shortcuts involve holding down the Control Key (labeled Ctrl) on the lower left side of your keyboard, while you hit a designated letter. See if you can do these:

You may know this one:

Ctrl + S — This keyboard shortcut is used to save a document instead of hitting the Save button.

How about these used to Cut, Copy and Paste:

Ctrl + C — To copy.

Ctrl + X — To cut (the “X" looks kind of like a scissors).

Ctrl + V — To paste (the “V" just happens to be located next to the “C" and the “X").

Here’s a way to Undo and Redo:

Ctrl + Z — Undo your last action.

Ctrl + Y — Redo the thing you just undid.

And here are a few others:

Ctrl + B — To make words bold.

Ctrl + I — To italicize words.

Ctrl + U — To underline words.

Ctrl + A — Select All (to highlight an entire document, website page, email, etc.).

Ctrl + P —Shortcut to print

Ctrl +O — To open a new document, such as in Microsoft Word.

Those are the ones that seem to be the most used. Have at ‘em! And feel free to email me if you have any questions.
